Health and Safety
We aim to consistently improve our safety culture. Accordingly, we have a structured approach through which we exercise effective control by means of our EHS* management systems which set clear requirements for all operations within the Group.
All occupational health and safety activities are based on Sandvik’s overall EHS Policy. Our EHS management system includes overall requirements that are specified in different standards and form the basis for our EHS performance requirements.
Health and safety measurement
We utilize a wide range of leading and lagging indicators to measure health and safety performance in every Sandvik location, including Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) and Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR). Both these indicators show long-term positive trends.

Workplace safety at our customers
The mining and infrastructure industries are examples of areas where we work closely with our customers to develop products and solutions contributing to safer work environments. Two of the most important technologies for safer mining are automation and electrification.
Automation
With AutoMine™ mining automation system, operators are able to manage processes and communicate with surface and underground equipment from the safety of their surface control room. The system is developed in cooperation with major mining companies and has evolved into a complete automation offering for surface and underground mines.
Electrification
By using Sandvik battery-electric loaders and trucks for underground mining, customers reduce emissions and create a better work environment. We continuously launch new products in this area which also come with a number of safety features such as emergency exits and safety glass windows.
